I got a little crafty and did a t-shirt recycling project a few weeks ago during a few of Samuel’s naps. I’ve had this little recycled t-shirt project in mind for quite a while now and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
I started with this t-shirt of Daniel’s. It has always been too small for him but I just loved the guitar print and I wanted to come up with some way to use it. It occurred to me one day that it might be fun to turn this old t-shirt into a pillow. Not a regular square pillow, though. A pillow shaped like a guitar! We want Samuel to have lots of musical and music-themed toys so this seemed like the perfect to upcycle an old t-shirt.
I’m not going to write up a really detailed t-shirt craft project tutorial because this is really simple to do! First, I flattened the t-shirt as much as could and pinned the two layers together (Top Right). Then I cut around the guitar print (Left). I pulled the two layers apart (Bottom Right) and put the back layer on top of the print. I sewed around the edges with probably an 1/8th of an inch seam allowance, leaving an opening for turning the pillow right side out for stuffing. Then, even though I’m terrible at it, I hand sewed the hole and BAM: DIY t-shirt pillow shaped like a guitar. More for little hands to rock out with than lay their head on. I think Samuel will really like to play rock star with it later.
